When I arrived at Mom's house around noon, she had already started working on the raspberry jam. It smelled so yummy in her house. Mason was nice enough to nap, so we got a lot done. In all, we made 4 batches - raspberry, strawberry, and raspberry/strawberry mixed. We were going to try Apricot this year too, since Nicole has an apricot tree now. (I say now, because it's her neighbor's, but when she put up her fence it got fenced into her yard. It's very messy, but it was anyway. No one is living in the neighbor's house, so it's apricots galore for us!) Unfortunately, the heavy winds we've had this last week dropped all the apricots to the ground and they were no good. Maybe next year.
We made 34 cups in all. That my friends, is quite a bit of jam. Of course, it's for our whole family. Stacy, Nicole, Mom and I will all get some. I'm not very domestic, which many of you know, but I was able to make jam with no problems. It's ridiculously simple, actually. Why would anyone want to eat store bought jam?
And then, there's the 'Go jam your butt on a rock' quote. My dear Mom has been saying this to me my entire life whenever I request jam. Her Dad used to say it to her as well. I wish I knew where he got it from or why he chose to pass it on, 'butt' I'll always think of him when I eat jam.
