Front Runner

I've been wanting to ride the Front Runner to Salt Lake ever since it opened a couple months ago. I really haven't had any reason to go, so I haven't drug Mason onto it yet. Last week, Nicole took a couple of days off of work while Wade went out of town. Ethan had Space Camp each day up at the University of Utah, so Mason and I joined them one day to take him. It's quite a production getting 3 young kids on and off public transportation. We caught the Front Runner in Clearfield at about 11:30am. We'd just missed the earlier train. We could see it pull up, but couldn't get there in time. So we sat and ate lunch for the next half hour at the station. It was nice not being rushed.
When we boarded, there was one other person in the car with us is all, so the kids were able to roam around and get out their wiggles. I even let Mason down to crawl around a bit. I'm sure the floor of the Front Runner is squeaky clean!

We got to Salt Lake and immediately transferred to the TRAX line to the University. TRAX has 3 stairs to climb to get into their cars, so we had to wrestle with strollers and kids to accomplish this. Luckily, no one fell, but there were some close calls. After we got to the University station, we walked 2-3 blocks over to President's Circle to drop Ethan off. Then we walked backed to the station and hopped the TRAX down to Hires. Hires is one of my favorite places to eat. Nicole isn't a huge fan of it, so I knew she was being nice when she allowed it. We were all pooped and hungry, so it was a nice break. Mason just relaxed in the high chair, literally. Feet up and all.

Ellie drank about 1/2 of Nic's 32 oz. Cherry Limeade and Mason drank a full 10 oz. of Fruit Punch! Not the best drinks for little kids, but anything to survive the next few hours without letting them nap. We were surprised at how quickly the 2 hours went before it was time to pick Ethan up. Back to TRAX. After getting Ethan we let the kids play on the grass up at the U for awhile. They were all so tired, but it was still a really nice day. They ran around, tackled, crawled, played, etc. And then, we all collapsed. All in all, we probably spent 30-45 minutes playing on the grass, which was necessary and fun.

We decided to forget going to Gateway, as we had originally planned, and just head back to Front Runner to go home. It's a dang good thing we did too. Besides the kids and us being exhausted, we were about to hit the 5pm rush of people. Even still, at 4:15pm, there was standing room only on the train. Now, I'll be the first to admit that I am very independent. I don't expect anyone to do anything for me. However, is chivalry completely DEAD?! Nicole has 2 young kids that we were able to get 2 seats for. The three of them shared that and Mason and I stood for awhile. Of course, Nicole offered to let me sit, but Mason was getting too tired for restless kids to be next to him.
I rocked him while I stood. Once he started to fade, I sat down in the back of the train (where the doors open and close) with him. There were at least 6 men who could see me doing this and not one of them offered me a seat. I was really surprised. These were business class men in suits and I really thought they would offer a young mother and her baby a seat. Not so. I sat on the floor for 45 minutes with Mason crashed out in my arms. It was perfectly comfortable, so it was fine. Not really safe, but fine.
We really had a delightful day. Ethan opted not to ride the trains in for his last day of Space Camp the following day. No surprise there, it was A LOT of work.

What a good mommy. I try not to do things that take too much effort -- especially when my kids are too young remember. Good job! Sorry I had to cut our conversation off suddenly. I had timers going off!

I think chivalry is dead. It stinks. I try to teach Peter and Lily to open doors for people and offer their seats to elderly or pregnant women.

Love the pics! Wish we could come to hang out with you guys. I'm sure Peter, Lily and Will would have a blast with Ethan, Ellie and Mason. Hope you're having fun camping!

Looks like quite the adventure! We were just in town, and thought about doing Front Runner. Maybe it is a good thing we didn't!

How fun!! My boys love taking the metro into DC (usually they love it more than whatever we do there!)
